Media and Outreach Supervisor Position with the Gabii Project
The Gabii Project invites applications for the position of Media and Outreach Supervisor, starting in November 2017. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the appointed person will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Gabii Project communications department.
The successful candidate will improve the Project’s outreach efforts, which currently include two official websites (https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/gabiiproject/; http://gabiiproject.org), an
official blog (http://lapisgabinus.blogspot.com), a student blog (http://agergabinus.blogspot.com), and social networks (Facebook: Gabii Project; Twitter: @GabiiProject; Instagram: @gabiiproject; Snapchat: @gabiiproject), by implementing and evaluating new strategies for public engagement in the United States and globally. He/she will also coordinate the activities of other assistants and interns that may be appointed to work on different media platforms.
The position is open to both Gabii staff members and external candidates with interests, and/or experience in public archaeology, museology, scientific journalism, and social media. The ability to work as part of a team is essential. This position will be undertaken from the Supervisor’s home during the academic year and on site in Italy during the June/July excavation season.
This is an opportunity to build a portfolio and gain experience as part of an established archaeological project with a strong record of digital methods in archaeology. The successful candidate will have the chance to shape the direction of the project’s new public archaeology efforts and to bring his or her own interests to the role.
